Ceylon UVA Highland from Murchie's Tea & Coffee Ltd
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Uva, Sri Lanka77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5
Nov. 30th, 2016
I enjoyed this tea; it's a potent black tea of good strength, with a classic British character. One could convincingly substitute this for an English Breakfast blend. It also has a great price, and is a bit smoother than other similar teas in its price range.
The cup is moderately aromatic, a little malty but mor...

Amber liquor. Aroma is very mild. The taste is very mild. It would be fine for all day sipping. To my taste, milk or sugar will overpower this tea.

This offering has been rebranded simply, "Premium Tea".
It offers a rich, dark color and flavor after steeping for 5 minutes instead of the recommended 2, but that does come at the expense of quite noticeably more bitterness than usual for most black teas I've immersed that long. I'm not big on bitterness, nor c...
Ceylon Orange Pekoe from Basilur
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon66 / 100 Aroma: 6/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 3/5

This was yet another tea I had the opportunity to sample from a variety pack in a hotel. I have never seen this brand for sale in the U.S. It was good, considerably above-average for a simple black tea bag.
A bold and strong tea, not particularly distinctive or remarkable, but good. Aroma is malty with hints of s...
Ceylon (Ceylon Orange Pekoe) from Ahmad Tea
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon77 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 4/5
Jun. 30th, 2016
I have no problem with Ahmad teas and the Ceylon is about as basic a full-bodied black tea as you can get. Better hot but OK iced as you can add juices, fruits or flavorings as you wish. Inexpensive.
Smooth, easy to drink and as Alex says - a "classic" cuppa tea.

I liked this tea and found it very interesting, it wasn't a favorite at first but it made me write and think a lot, and I found it grew on me. I especially liked this tea's ability to evoke interesting imagery and memories from my childhood with its aromas. Many of the Ceylon teas I've tried over the years have been s...

A dark and rich tea with smoky notes that were unusual for a Ceylon.
I've tried other Ceylon teas from Kenilworth, and this is not only unlike any other tea from this estate or garden, but unlike any other black teas I'm tried from Sri Lanka. I found it interesting how different this was from other Kenilworth teas,...
Uva Highlands from Harney and Sons
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Uva, Sri Lanka73 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 5/5

A potent, robust tea with a distinct wintergreen aroma that comes out more some times than others. A bit sensitive to brewing conditions, and not for the faint-hearted, but good if you want something strong, especially if you drink tea with milk. I served this to a friend who likes strong Irish Breakfast tea, and she...

I haven't tried the loose leaf tea from Ahmad, but I did have the opportunity to try this tea as part of an assortment pack I purchased at Marshall's. You may also be able to find it at TJ Maxx or Homegoods.
It is a good Ceylon bagged offering that brews a nice golden color with good flavor without being too bitter....
Ceylon Black Tea (Orange Pekoe) High Grown from Frontier
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5
Nov. 17th, 2015
My favorite tea from Frontier yet, I thought this a top-quality black tea and one of the better Ceylons I've sampled from any company.
The dry leaf is quite beautiful, and has a mild but pleasant aroma of malt and spice that is lighter and cooler than most malty teas.
Upon brewing, the aroma becomes a bit dusty, ...

Classic morning pot of tea if you like your tea strong enough to stand up to milk, yet not bitter or tannic. I used to fuss with making my own 'English breakfast blend' in search of the perfect combination of boldness and color -- hate weak, pale-colored tea in the morning -- but without adding bitterness or a smoky or...

In London, and visited Harrods so had to buy something. The English Afternoon tea is nice and comes in a cute Harrods tea can. A bit pricey due to strong GBPound versus Canadian$. A mild aroma and light taste, its an ok brew to serve for high tea with scones.

This was my first venture into "low elevation" Ceylon tea.
Produces a deep ruby liquor, with a very rounded and balanced flavor with light but noticeable "cocoa" in the aroma and taste. Not even remotely bitter. Balanced is a good word for this strong (caffeine-wise) single estate black tea.
Over steeping (4 ...
Kandy OP from Upton Tea Imports
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Kandy, Sri Lanka87 / 100 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5

The aroma is mild, and very typical for a British-style black tea, on the malty side for a Ceylon, and much more complex than most other Ceylons. I found it is easy to overlook if brewed weakly, but really comes alive if brewed more strongly.
This tea is quite slow to infuse; I like steeping 5 minutes or more, and ...
English Aristocratic Tea from Hyleys Tea
Style: Ceylon Black Tea – Region: Sri Lanka / Ceylon70 / 100 Aroma: 7/10 Flavor: 3/5 Value: 4/5
Dec. 25th, 2014
A strong black tea of very good quality for a very reasonable price. In spite of the "English Aristocratic" name, I think this tea has more of a Russian flavor aesthetic: bold, strong, and intensely fruity. I really enjoy the large-leaf Ceylon OPA teas. My favorite is Ahmad Tea's, and I think I still like that one a...

Tastes halfway between a Darjeeling and a typical black tea. I didn't like it the first time I tried it, but this time it's quite smooth. Don't oversteep it to avoid bittterness. Slightly raisin-like.
Whole bag of fannings diffuses immediately.
Ceylon Sonata from Adagio Teas

This tea has a nice fruity aroma. I like just smelling it for a while before actually taking a drink. I want to say that it reminds me of purple grapes.
The taste actually has a good degree of character. It's a mix between chocolate and citrus notes, and that's without any sweetener. It's also quite smooth, with ver...

A complex, versatile black tea of excellent quality that can be brewed to suit different tastes.
The dry leaf of this tea is very tightly rolled, almost like a gunpowder tea. In spite of this though, it's intensely aromatic, with a very pleasing aroma, fresh, fruity, light smelling, with tones of wintergreen and a ...

The aroma of this tea is bright, bold, and malty with a hint of pecans and dried leaves. Very much a standard black tea indeed!
This tea has a nice mild briskness, just enough to wake you up but not too much, no need to worry about your moth turning inside out. There is a bold malty and oak wood taste that fades to ...

The aroma is exceptionally sweet and fruity, blending notes of fresh grapes, scuppernongs, and a hint of fresh figs. There is also a very mild note of roses and malt, giving this tea a delightfully complex aroma. This might be the best smelling Black Ceylon that I have had the pleasure of sniffing.
The taste of this...

I've got a soft spot for this offering from Ahmad after stumbling across it when I was living in northern Norway and was hankering after a good brew. This is a very good example of Ceylonese tea, typical bright colour, moderate maltiness and very refreshing. To me it's a lovely summer tea and well worth having in the p...

I loved this tea; it was one of the best Ceylons I've ever sampled. Robust, warming, and surprisingly multifaceted.
Dry leaf has a very pleasant smell, suggestive of dried fruit.
Brews a lighter reddish-brown color; rich and complex aroma, suggesting wood, spice, dried fruit, and malt. I find the commercial des...
